New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi hoisted the tricolor for the 11th consecutive time at the Red Fort on Thursday on the occasion of Independence Day. While addressing the countrymen from the ramparts of the Red Fort, PM Modi also saluted the freedom fighters who gave freedom to the country. With this, PM Modi left behind former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. Manmohan Singh had hoisted the tricolor 10 times from the ramparts of the Red Fort during 2004 to 2014. In this case, Modi has reached the third position after former Prime Ministers Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi.
Prime Minister Modi said that today is that holy moment when we are saluting the countless freedom fighters who died for the country, dedicated their lives for the freedom of the country, struggled throughout their lives, went to the gallows and raised the slogan of Bharat Mata Ki Jai. Freedom lovers have given us the privilege of breathing the air of freedom on this festival of independence today. This country is indebted to them and we express our respect to every such great man.
He further said that today those who are engaged in protecting the nation and building the nation with full devotion, with full dedication, are trying to take the country to new heights, be it our farmers, our soldiers, the courage of our youth, the contribution of our mothers and sisters, Dalits, exploited, deprived, suffering, their loyalty towards freedom even in the midst of deprivations, their loyalty towards democracy, this is an inspirational event for the whole world. Today I respectfully salute all such people.
